Singapore researchers develop pill that delivers medication to Parkinson's patients over 24 hours

From up to six pills a day to just one. Singapore researchers from NTU have developed a new pill designed to deliver medication over 24 hours to patients of Parkinson's disease. This could mean fewer limb spasms, often experienced when the levodopa drug, or L-dopa, wears off. Researchers have started talks with the National Neuroscience Institute and aim to begin clinical trials by end-2021. The microcapsules are made up of L-dopa and when swallowed, stay and float in the stomach, which enables a slow and continuous delivery compared to conventional pills that quickly breakdown and are absorbed in the intestines.
